Maritime culture and institutional engagement highlighted in Italy
Various maritime-focused initiatives have taken place in Italy, emphasizing the cultural, scientific, and institutional importance of the sea.
In Mazara del Vallo, the Coast Guard (Capitaneria di Porto) hosted members of the UNITALSI Creative Laboratory. The visit included a tour of the operations room and naval vessels, where military personnel explained the Coast Guard’s roles in search and rescue, navigation safety, and marine environmental protection. The initiative aimed to strengthen the connection between maritime institutions and the local community.
In Naples, as part of the Napoli Shipping Week, the Southern Culture Institute hosted an event titled “The Sea: Charm and Discipline.” Organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Naples, the dialogue brought together academics, experts, and students to discuss the sea’s human and scientific value. Speakers emphasized the need to provide young people with concrete opportunities and a culture of merit and discipline to foster a responsible maritime future.
