Maritime fatalities reported in Black Sea drone attack and Philippines ferry fire

Two Azerbaijani sailors were killed and two others injured following a drone attack on a Turkish supply tugboat in the Black Sea on Wednesday, September 9. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the incident and stated that the injured crew members were transported to a hospital in Chornomorsk, Ukraine, for medical treatment.

The Ministry is currently coordinating with diplomatic missions and relevant authorities to facilitate the repatriation of the deceased and the return of the injured following medical evaluations. Azerbaijani officials have advised citizens to avoid travel and employment in areas where hostilities are ongoing or security remains unstable.

In a separate maritime incident in the Philippines, the death toll from a passenger ferry fire has risen to 35. The Philippine Coast Guard reported that rescuers recovered 30 bodies from the vessel, identified as the June Aster, near Coron in Palawan. The fire, which broke out on Wednesday, initially prevented rescue operations due to thick smoke and extreme temperatures. Dozens of people remain missing from the vessel, which was carrying more than 130 passengers.
