Maritime heritage and Impressionist legacies highlighted in Hamburg and Le Havre

Cultural landmarks and artistic legacies are being highlighted in Hamburg and Le Havre. In Hamburg, the Haifisch Bar remains a preserved maritime institution on the Elbstraße. Established in 1947, the bar has maintained its original structural charm and nautical decor despite the surrounding modernization of the harbor area, which now features glass office buildings and contemporary restaurants.

In Le Havre, artist Guillaume Aubry has installed a periscope at Quai de Southampton as part of the ‘Un été au Havre’ street art festival. The installation allows viewers to see the modern industrial port through the lens of Claude Monet’s 1872 perspective, specifically referencing his painting ‘Impression, Sunrise’. The work serves as a dialogue with the late painter, marking the centenary of his death.
