Maritime incidents reported in Philippines and Gulf region

A ferry fire in the Philippines has resulted in at least five deaths and left 86 people missing. The vessel, which was traveling from Manila to Coron, caught fire approximately 2.2 km off the coast of Palawan province. The Philippine Coast Guard reported that 43 people have been rescued so far. Search and rescue operations are being hampered by heavy waves, which have caused the ferry to drift. Authorities are utilizing a comprehensive approach, including assistance from volunteer fishing communities, to locate the missing passengers and crew.

In a separate maritime escalation, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that several merchant ships in the Gulf region have been targeted and rendered inoperable. This follows claims by the U.S. military regarding attacks on Iranian tankers in the Gulf of Oman and near Khark Island. While the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed to have damaged U.S. Navy destroyers, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has dismissed these claims as false, stating that no U.S. warships were hit and that all attack attempts failed. The U.S. military further stated they successfully destroyed 10 Iranian tankers in the past week.
