Maritime leaders MSC and Grimaldi expand global and seasonal operations
Major maritime operators are expanding their seasonal and global reach. MSC Crociere plans to deploy six ships in the Mediterranean during the winter season, including the debut of the MSC World Asia from Genoa on December 6, 2026. This move follows research by AstraRicerche indicating high interest in off-season travel, with 97.8% of respondents expressing interest in traveling outside peak periods.
Separately, the Grimaldi Group is strengthening its global maritime network despite geopolitical tensions and potential trade barriers. CEO Emanuele Grimaldi announced that the company currently utilizes 30 ships on regular services connecting Asia to Europe, Africa, Latin America, and Oceania. The group has also launched new intra-Asian services, such as routes between China and the Philippines, while investing in high-tech, environmentally advanced multipurpose and ConRo vessels.
