Maritime Police seize 2,600 liters of fuel in Ria Formosa

The Maritime Police seized a vessel containing 2,600 liters of fuel stored in 133 jerrycans and various food supplies in the Fuseta area, within the Olhão municipality. The operation took place along the banks of the Ria Formosa following an alert received early Friday morning.

Upon arrival, officers found the motorless vessel grounded on the shore. The Regional Criminal Investigation Unit of the South was activated to collect and preserve evidence. Authorities are currently investigating the origin of the fuel and its potential connection to narcotics trafficking.

This incident follows several recent seizures in the Algarve region involving fuel jerrycans and vessels suspected of supporting maritime drug trafficking logistics.
