Maritime sector initiatives promote blue economy and local fishing in Spain
Regional initiatives in Spain are focusing on promoting the maritime sector and the blue economy through education and local product awareness.
In Vilanova i la Geltrú, GALP Costa Central hosted the ‘Les Arts del Mar’ event to highlight the value of local blue fish. The session addressed nutrition, gastronomy, and responsible consumption, while also aiming to connect citizens with the reality of the fishing profession. Experts discussed the nutritional benefits of blue fish and the traditional culinary techniques used in the Garraf region.
In the Marina Alta region, the ‘Punt Nàutic’ project, driven by Creama and pacte’MA, is working to connect youth with maritime professional opportunities. Supported by the Generalitat and the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, the initiative includes the ‘Dia Blau’ program, which combines nautical sports with marine environment education in Dénia, Calp, and Teulada-Moraira. Additionally, vocational training programs in Dénia have integrated practical sessions where local fishermen teach culinary students about maritime traditions.
