Maritime strikes impact Bab al-Mandab Strait and US Navy logistics
Military activity in the Bab al-Mandab Strait and surrounding waters continues to impact maritime logistics and infrastructure. In the Al-Ardi port region, a missile attack involving four missiles caused significant damage to the vessel Amir Khan and destroyed part of a maintenance pier. The ship was reportedly empty at the time of the strike, resulting in no casualties. While local reports identify the vessel as belonging to a Yemeni contractor, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree claimed the operation targeted a Saudi military landing ship and four military boats off the coast of Mocha.
Concurrently, tensions in the region have impacted United States naval operations. Reports indicate that Iranian strikes against logistics hubs in Bahrain, the UAE, and Oman have disrupted supply lines for the USS Abraham Lincoln. Sailors have documented challenges including food shortages and deteriorating conditions during extended deployments. While CENTCOM has stated that morale remains high and reenlistment rates are at record levels, the disruptions to regional logistics hubs continue to affect fleet readiness.
