Maritime technology firms Kraken Robotics and Kongsberg announce new sonar developments

Kraken Robotics has announced $35 million in new product orders across the maritime defense, offshore energy, and ocean science sectors. These orders include navigation, positioning, and Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) technologies. The company reported a total of $327 million in product orders for 2026 to date for Kraken and Covelya combined, driven by demand for SeaPower batteries and SAS technology.

In a separate development, Kongsberg has launched the Aegir SSA sonar family, designed to provide continuous underwater situational awareness. Unveiled at ONS 2026, the system is intended to protect ports, offshore assets, and critical subsea infrastructure. The technology features an AI-powered virtual sonar operator service to reduce the need for constant human monitoring and can be deployed on uncrewed surface vessels, buoys, or fixed sites.
