Maritime Transport wins RFG 2026 Sustainability Award

Maritime Transport has received the Sustainability and Environmental Excellence Award at the 2026 Rail Freight Group (RFG) Awards. The recognition follows the implementation of a major decarbonization programme in the United Kingdom aimed at shifting long-distance container transport from road to rail.

Since 2019, the company has invested over £100 million in private capital to expand rail-connected terminals, intermodal services, and operational capacity. This investment has helped increase the share of rail movements within its network from approximately 6% to over 25%. Key connections include DP World London Gateway, DP World Southampton, and the Port of Felixstowe with various inland terminals.

To address remaining road transport needs, the company’s Maritime ZERO division is deploying electric heavy goods vehicles (eHGVs) and high-powered charging infrastructure. As part of this initiative, the company is introducing a total of 56 eHGVs during 2026. Additionally, Maritime recently expanded its inland terminal capacity with the opening of the Strategic Rail Freight Interchange at SEGRO Logistics Park Northampton.
