Marius Borg Høiby granted leave for King Harald V's funeral
Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Queen Mette-Marit, has been granted special permission to attend the funeral of King Harald V of Norway. The King passed away at the age of 89.
Høiby, who is 29, has been under house arrest with an electronic monitoring bracelet since mid-July while awaiting the verdict on his appeal. He was previously sentenced in June to four years in prison for charges including two rapes and 32 other offenses, including violence against a former partner.
Prosecutor Ota Kartreud stated that the prosecution decided Høiby’s requests for leave due to the King’s death should be accepted. The permission allows him to attend the funeral on September 9 and the transfer of the monarch’s remains to the Royal Chapel. Høiby was also permitted to visit the King in the hospital prior to his death.
