Marius Borg Høiby granted retrial for rape and violence charges

The Borgarting Court of Appeal in Norway has decided to hear the appeal of Marius Borg Høiby, granting a retrial for several serious criminal charges. Although Høiby previously received a four-year prison sentence for crimes including two counts of rape, domestic violence, and violations of restraining orders, he has consistently maintained his innocence.

The upcoming appeal proceedings will specifically re-examine allegations regarding a 2018 rape at Skaugum, a 2024 rape in western Oslo, and the abuse of a close relation, Nora Haukland. While Høiby has not appealed other portions of his sentence, the court's decision to move forward with these specific charges allows both the prosecution and the defense to present new evidence, conduct new interviews, and submit updated expert reports.

Legal experts note that the decision to grant the appeal is a standard procedural right in the Norwegian justice system, particularly in cases involving complex evidentiary issues. The prosecution had previously argued against a new round of hearings, but the court has overruled that position. The duration of the new trial is estimated to be approximately four weeks.
