Marius Borg Høiby legal dispute over witness count in Norway

A legal dispute has emerged ahead of the appeal trial for Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit. The conflict centers on the number of witnesses to be heard during the proceedings at the Borgarting Court of Appeal in Oslo.

Prosecutor Sturla Henriksbø is seeking to significantly reduce the number of witness testimonies, citing a new legal regulation designed to protect victims and affected parties from repeated emotional distress. Conversely, Høiby’s defense team, led by Alexander Greaker and Daniel Storrvik, is demanding a comprehensive evidentiary hearing. The defense has already named at least 18 witnesses, including 14 who testified in the initial trial and four new individuals.

Høiby was previously sentenced to four years in prison by a district court in June 2026. The appeal process is scheduled to begin on February 9, 2027, with the defense seeking an acquittal while facing the possibility of a harsher sentence.
