Marius Borg Høiby under electronic house arrest at Skaugum

Marius Borg Høiby, 29, the son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette‑Marit, has been moved from Ila prison to the royal estate Skaugum to serve his pre‑trial detention under an electronic ankle monitor. The Oslo District Court ordered that he remain under electronic control for an initial four‑week period, allowing him to stay in a designated residence on the estate while wearing the monitoring device.

He is permitted limited freedom on the grounds, including internet and mobile phone use, and may leave the estate for work or school within set hours and with permission. Visits from friends are allowed, but alcohol and other intoxicants are strictly prohibited and regular drug tests are conducted. The decision was not appealed by the prosecution. The arrangement coincides with his mother’s recovery from a lung transplant, also at Skaugum, prompting public debate over whether the royal connection influenced the court’s ruling.
