Marius Borg Høiby remains in house arrest as court extends detention

The Oslo District Court has extended the pretrial detention of Marius Borg Høiby, the 29-year-old son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, for an additional four weeks. Høiby will remain under house arrest at the Skaugum estate, monitored by an electronic ankle bracelet.

The court's decision, which lasts until September 7, follows a request from prosecutors who cited a continued risk of recidivism. Although Høiby sought release under a less restrictive ‘reverse violence alarm’ system, the court ruled that the danger of him contacting victims or committing new offenses remains significant. He is required to undergo regular drug testing and is permitted to leave the premises only for work, education, medical appointments, or visiting ill family members.

Høiby was previously convicted in June on 34 counts, including two counts of rape and violence against an ex-girlfriend, resulting in a four-year prison sentence that is currently under appeal. His defense attorney, Petar Sekulic, has announced an appeal against the court's decision, questioning both the legal assessment of the risk of reoffending and alleged procedural errors regarding prior communications from the police.
