Marius Borg Høiby sentenced to four years in prison
Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been sentenced to four years in prison by a court in Oslo. The 29-year-old was facing four accusations of rape, of which he was found guilty in two cases.
The legal proceedings follow a series of revelations that began in August 2024, when police arrested Høiby following allegations that he had assaulted his girlfriend. The case has caused a significant crisis for the Norwegian Royal House.
Journalist Stefan Blatt characterized the situation as the largest scandal to impact Norway in recent history, citing the nature of the crimes. The events are the subject of a ZDF documentary titled ‘Im Schatten der Krone’ (In the Shadow of the Crown), which examines the lives of royals living outside the direct line of succession.
