Marius Borg Høiby remains in detention as appeal proceeds after four‑year rape sentence

Norway’s Crown Princess Mette‑Marit’s eldest son, Marius Borg Høiby, was sentenced by an Oslo court to four years in prison for two rape convictions and additional offences linked to domestic violence. The court also denied his request to be released from pre‑trial detention so he could be with his mother, who is recovering from a lung‑transplant operation for chronic pulmonary fibrosis.

Since February he has been held in investigation detention after breaching a restraining order against an ex‑girlfriend. Høiby’s legal team announced an appeal against the verdict, though later reports indicate he has chosen not to contest the decision on his detention status. A hearing on the appeal is expected in the coming year.
