Marius Borg Høiby to be moved as Oslo prison closes

Marius Borg Høiby, the 29‑year‑old son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette‑Marit, has been ordered to leave the Oslo prison in the Grønland district. The facility, known locally as “Bayer’n”, will close in June and be demolished, with a new complex for 140 inmates planned for completion by 2031. All 243 prisoners currently housed there must be transferred to other institutions up to 130 km away, with Ilseng and the closer Romerike prison (about 40 km from Oslo) identified as possible destinations. Officials have not yet confirmed where Høiby will be relocated.

His criminal case, concluded after a seven‑week trial, includes roughly 40 charges ranging from multiple sexual assaults and domestic violence to drug trafficking and breach of a court‑ordered contact ban. The prosecution seeks a sentence of seven years and seven months, while the defence argues for a much shorter term. The verdict is scheduled for 15 June. The royal family has largely stayed out of public comment on the scandal.
