Mariusz Fyrstenberg resigns as Polish Davis Cup captain

Mariusz Fyrstenberg has stepped down from his role as the captain of the Polish Davis Cup team after nearly seven years. Since taking the position in early 2020, Fyrstenberg led the team through 12 matches, achieving seven wins and five losses.

Under his leadership, Poland improved its Davis Cup ranking from 49th to 31st and secured three consecutive appearances in World Group I between 2024 and 2026. Fyrstenberg expressed pride in the team's progress, stating that while tennis is an individual sport, representing the nation is “something much greater than one's own name.”

Following a recent loss to Australia, Fyrstenberg expressed frustration regarding the absence of Poland's top player, Hubert Hurkacz, noting that the player has shown a lack of interest in competing for the national team. The Polish Tennis Association is expected to announce a successor for the captaincy shortly.
