Mariusz Komenda, MasterChef semi-finalist, dies at 44
Mariusz Komenda, a chef recognized as a semi-finalist on the 8th season of the television program MasterChef, has passed away at the age of 44.
Komenda was diagnosed in early 2026 with a malignant glioma located in his right thalamus. He underwent two major brain surgeries and sought treatment at facilities including the National Medical Institute in Warsaw and the Provincial Specialist Hospital in Legnica. During his illness, he used social media to share his journey and organized fundraising efforts to cover the high costs of medical treatment, medication, and rehabilitation.
Following his appearance on MasterChef in 2019, Komenda continued his career in gastronomy. In April 2025, he opened the Father & Son restaurant in Środa Śląska alongside his son. He was remembered by the MasterChef production team as a person full of passion and energy for cooking.
