Mariusz Olchowik launches campaign to rehabilitate Henryk Jankowski
Following a final ruling by the Gdańsk Court of Appeal, Mariusz Olchowik, president of the Henryk Jankowski Institute, has launched an initiative to rehabilitate the reputation of the late Solidarity chaplain. The court ordered the publisher Gazeta Wyborcza to issue apologies for unreliable reporting by journalists Bożena Aksamit and Piotr Głuchowski, noting that allegations of sexual misconduct and responsibility for a young girl's death were based on unverified accounts.
Olchowik plans a series of commemorative actions to coincide with the 90th anniversary of Jankowski's birth on December 18. These include publishing historical biographies, reinstating historical honors, and advocating for the return of a monument and a square named after the priest in Gdańsk. Additional goals include seeking the Order of the White Eagle for the deceased priest and establishing a permanent exhibition at the European Solidarity Centre dedicated to Solidarity chaplains.
