Mariúva suspended from Rondonópolis council seat

The Court of Justice of Mato Grosso (TJMT) has ordered the temporary removal of councilwoman Mariúva (MDB) from her duties in the Rondonópolis Municipal Chamber. The decision, issued by Judge Helena Maria Bezerra Ramos, also suspends her salary and indemnity funds while the measure is in effect.

The removal follows a definitive criminal conviction by the Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region (TRF-1) for witness corruption. While a charge of coercion during legal proceedings was dismissed due to the statute of limitations, the conviction for witness corruption remains, carrying a sentence of three years and nine months.

The ruling has triggered a political dispute regarding the vacancy. Former councilman Denilson Roberto Sodré de Oliveira, known as Dico, filed the request for removal as the first substitute for the coalition that elected Mariúva. Although the court has not ordered the immediate inauguration of a substitute, the decision impacts the political composition of the Chamber.
