Marjan Batagelj invests €12 million to overhaul Hotel Cerkno and spa

Postojnska jama, led by president Marjan Batagelj, has secured a building permit to renovate the former Hotel Cerkno and its adjoining spa in the Slovenian town of Cerkno. The project involves a €12 million investment, the creation of 38 new apartments, and upgrading the hotel to about 170 rooms covering 7,200 m² of net floor area.

The redevelopment aims to revitalize local tourism, linking accommodation, spa facilities, and outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking and cycling. Mayor Gašper Uršič thanked Batagelj for the initiative. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of next year, with the hotel and spa slated to open for the winter season.

The renovation follows several years of planning, administrative hurdles and the acquisition of the property, which previously faced legal and registration issues. The project is being carried out by a newly formed company, Projekt Cerkno, under the oversight of Batagelj and Postojnska jama.
