Marjane Satrapi funeral set for June 19 at Père‑Lachaise Cemetery

Franco‑Iranian cartoonist and author Marjane Satrapi, aged 56, died on 4 June 2026 after a period of severe depression while hospitalized in Munich, Germany. Her death, announced by her family, followed the loss of her husband, actor Mattias Ripa, a year earlier.

Satrapi’s relatives disclosed that a public ceremony will be held on Friday 19 June 2026 at 13:00 in the Coupole hall of the crematorium at Père‑Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, France. Fans, readers and friends are invited to pay their respects. Satrapi is best known for the autobiographical graphic novel Persepolis, which sold over a million copies in France and was adapted into an award‑winning animated film.

Her career also included works such as Broderies and Poulet aux prunes, and she received the Angoulême International Comics Festival prize and a Cannes Jury Prize for the film adaptation of Persepolis. The funeral arrangement has drawn widespread attention and condolences on social media.
