Mark Attanasio ordered to dedicate Malibu property for public use

The California Coastal Commission has unanimously approved a settlement requiring Mark Attanasio, owner of the Milwaukee Brewers, to restore a damaged shoreline and dedicate a $2 million beachfront property for public use in Malibu.

Attanasio’s company, 2XMD Partners LLC, was accused of using heavy machinery, including an excavator, to remove sand, cobble stones, and boulders from a protected marine area. The materials were allegedly used to backfill a seawall at his Broad Beach Road property. As part of the settlement, the company must also remove a private staircase and rock wall that officials stated blocked public access to the coast.

The legal dispute began two years ago following a lawsuit from neighbor James Kohlberg, who alleged that the private property owner was using a public beach as a personal resource for private use.
