DWTS: The Next Pro premieres, Mark Ballas judges and first dancers eliminated

The new spin‑off "Dancing With the Stars: The Next Pro" premiered on ABC on July 13, 2026 at 8 p.m. ET. Hosted by former mirrorball champion Robert Irwin, the series features a panel of permanent judges Mark Ballas and his mother Shirley Ballas, with guest judge Derek Hough for the opening episode. Twelve professional dancers lived together in Brisbane, Australia and competed in jive and samba challenges to earn a spot as a professional on Season 35 of the flagship show.

The judges eliminated two contestants in a double‑elimination: Briar Nolet (samba) and Jake Monreal (jive). Both commented on their performances, noting technical shortcomings pointed out by the Ballases. Mark Ballas described the format as a test of teaching, choreography and adaptability beyond pure dance technique.

Viewers could watch the live broadcast for free via streaming services offering trial periods, such as Fubo, DIRECTV Stream and YouTube TV; the episode was also available the next day on Disney+ and Hulu. The series promises weekly challenges, mentorship from current DWTS pros, and the eventual prize of a professional‑dancer slot on the main show.
