Mark Chapman signs casual contract with New Zealand Cricket for BBL
New Zealand cricketer Mark Chapman has signed a casual contract with New Zealand Cricket to facilitate his participation in Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL). This arrangement allows the explosive left-handed batsman and spinner to play in the BBL during his domestic summer instead of competing in New Zealand's domestic circuit. While his specific BBL team has not yet been confirmed, Chapman expressed gratitude to the board for their support and stated his commitment to upcoming series, including those against India.
Chapman joins several other players, including Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne, and Tim Seifert, who have opted for casual contracts to pursue league cricket opportunities. Consequently, fast bowler Matt Fisher has been promoted to the central contract list. Selector Gavin Larsen noted that strengthening the pace attack is a priority ahead of upcoming Test series against India, Australia, and Sri Lanka, citing Fisher’s speed as a valuable asset for team balance.
