Mark Cuban-led Harbinger Sports Buys Minority Stake in Athletics for Vegas Move

An investment group called Harbinger Sports Partners, led by former Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and including Atlanta Falcons minority owner Rashaun Williams, AMB Sports co‑CEO Steve Cannon and former MLB CFO Jonathan Mariner, has purchased an undisclosed minority stake in Major League Baseball’s Oakland Athletics.

The deal was announced in July 2026 ahead of the franchise’s planned relocation to Las Vegas. Majority owner John Fisher is overseeing construction of a $2 billion, 33,000‑seat domed stadium on the Las Vegas Strip, slated to open for the 2028 season. While the Athletics are currently playing at a Triple‑A ballpark in West Sacramento, the new ownership partner adds financial backing and sports‑industry expertise.

Harbinger raised more than $460 million for its sports fund, but the investment is not a bailout; Fisher’s financing already includes $380 million of public money and private loans from U.S. Bank and Goldman Sachs. The group says the Las Vegas market offers a major growth opportunity for professional sports.
