Mark Cuban withdraws legal petition against Dallas Mavericks

Mark Cuban has withdrawn his Rule 202 petition against Dallas Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont. The case, which was filed in July, was dismissed without prejudice, leading to the cancellation of a scheduled arbitration hearing.

Cuban, who maintains a minority stake in the franchise after selling majority control in 2023, had accused the Adelson and Dumont families of “adversarial business practices.” The dispute centered on the team’s plans for a new arena and entertainment district, specifically regarding the option to purchase land at the former Valley View Mall site.

According to Cuban’s legal team, the petition successfully secured necessary information regarding Arena Development Intermediate, the subsidiary managing the land agreements. While the specific petition has been dropped, Cuban’s attorneys indicated that they intend to “proceed to vindicate their rights,” suggesting further legal action may follow.

The Mavericks have reaffirmed their commitment to the Valley View Mall location, stating they are conducting due diligence regarding zoning and financing. The franchise aims to have the new arena completed in time for the 2031/32 NBA season.
