Mark Feehily sues surgeon over weight-loss procedure complications

Westlife singer Mark Feehily has launched a medical negligence lawsuit in the High Court in London against bariatric surgeon Nick Carter. The legal action follows a 2020 laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy performed at Spire Portsmouth Hospital.

Feehily alleges that Carter failed to remove a sufficient portion of his stomach during the procedure. This allegedly left behind tissue that caused an internal leak, leading to severe abdominal infections, recurrent sepsis, and multiple hospital admissions. As a result of these complications, Feehily underwent a total gastrectomy in 2023 to have his entire stomach removed.

The singer's health struggles, which included battling pneumonia and spending time in intensive care, led to an indefinite hiatus from Westlife starting in 2024. Feehily is represented by Leigh Day Solicitors. Surgeon Nick Carter denies the allegations of negligence.
