Lion City Sailors draw 1-1 with BG Pathum in ACL Two opener

Lion City Sailors drew 1-1 against Thai side BG Pathum United in their opening Group F match of the 2026/27 AFC Champions League Two at Jalan Besar Stadium. The match marked the competitive debut of new English head coach Mark Jackson, who had only been with the team for two days following the approval of his work visa.

The Sailors took the lead in the 24th minute through an own goal by BG Pathum defender Marko Nikolić, following a cross from Giovanni Haag. BG Pathum equalized shortly after the halftime break when Patrik Gustavsson scored after a through-ball from Chanathip Songkrasin. Despite late pressure from both sides, the match ended in a stalemate.

Post-match, Jackson praised his players for their fight and willingness to learn despite the limited preparation time. He noted that while the team aims to win all home games, further consistency and tactical implementation will require more time.
