Mark Keller reveals he took ‘Bergdoktor’ role due to financial need
Actor Mark Keller revealed that he accepted his long-running role as Dr. Alexander Kahnweiler in the ZDF series ‘Der Bergdoktor’ primarily due to financial necessity. Speaking on Barbara Schöneberg’s podcast ‘Mit den Waffeln einer Frau’, the 61-year-old actor explained that he was short on funds and felt he had no other option at the time.
Keller noted that upon initially reviewing the script, he was skeptical because his name appeared very infrequently, suggesting the role was quite small. Despite this uncertainty, he attended the casting.
Additionally, Keller shared that the distinctive voice of his character originated from his time at home with his sons. In the early 2000s, he developed a specific way of speaking while telling stories to his children using a character named Shappulus. He later applied this unique vocal style during his audition, which helped define the character he has played since 2008.
