Mark Lane, Australian surfing leader, passes away

The Australian surfing community is mourning the death of Mark Lane, a prominent sports administrator and former CEO of both Surfing WA and Surfing Australia. Lane, affectionately known as ‘Laney’, passed away following a long battle with cancer.

Throughout a career spanning more than 30 years, Lane contributed to the sport at every level, from grassroots coaching to managing elite national teams and major world championship events. He was instrumental in securing funding for World Championship Tour events in Western Australia and helped establish the WA Surf Gallery in Yallingup.

A paddle-out ceremony to honor his life and legacy is scheduled to take place at Scarborough Beach this weekend.
