Mark McVeigh endorsed for Essendon senior coaching role

Mark McVeigh has emerged as a leading candidate for the Essendon senior coaching position. John Longmire, the Sydney Swans coach, has endorsed McVeigh, stating that his extensive experience in the AFL industry makes him well-prepared for the role.

McVeigh’s background includes playing 232 games for the Bombers and serving as a caretaker coach for Greater Western Sydney in 2022. He currently serves as an assistant coach for the Swans.

Meanwhile, Essendon interim coach Dean Solomon has dismissed rumors of a personal rift between himself and McVeigh, describing the speculation as baseless. Solomon, who has been a friend of McVeigh for 30 years, also noted uncertainty regarding his own future at the club, citing family commitments in northern New South Wales and the potential for a new senior coach to appoint a different assistant coaching panel.
