Stefan Mross bows out as 'Immer wieder sonntags' ends after 21 years
The long‑running ARD Schlager show "Immer wieder sonntags" will conclude in 2026 after a 21‑year run. Host Stefan Mross presents a final season featuring about 130 artists, with an extra special episode slated for 6 September.
Mross’s daughter Johanna Mross will not appear on her father’s show; instead she is scheduled to guest on ZDF‑Fernsehgarten’s "Family Battle" on 26 July alongside her mother, former wife Stefanie Hertel. The appearance has drawn media attention because it coincides with the father’s farewell season.
During the farewell series Mross sparked controversy by praising a local “Hofbräuhaus” for the “best Schweinsbraten”, a remark that ARD’s advertising guidelines deem potentially improper product placement. The broadcaster’s regional partner SWR defended the segment as a neutral locale reference.
Mross expressed emotional distress over the cancellation, noting that the show was “his life” and that many staff will lose their jobs. He said he will pursue new projects, rejecting reality‑TV formats and hinting at a touring concept named “Immer wieder Stefan”.
