Mark R. Pitzer to lecture on neuroscience at COCC

Mark R. Pitzer, Ph.D., co-director of neuroscience at the University of Portland, will present “Seeing the Big Picture: How the Brain Manipulates Our Visual World” as part of the Nancy R. Chandler Lecture Series. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, at 6:30 p.m. at Wille Hall on the Central Oregon Community College Bend campus.

Through demonstrations and stories, Pitzer will examine how the brain filters and alters conscious perception, suggesting that the brain makes rapid, informed guesses rather than creating a perfect copy of reality. The lecture series, a program of the Central Oregon Community College Foundation, recently marked its 40-year milestone. Tickets are available on a sliding scale from $0 to $10.
