Mark Ruffalo criticizes Paramount and Warner Bros. merger
Actor Mark Ruffalo has criticized the approved merger between Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery, claiming the deal will “stifle creativity, weaken freedom of expression, and cost people their jobs.” Ruffalo expressed disappointment following the approval of the deal, which is expected to close on October 6, 2026.
The actor characterized the merger as a victory for “corrupt billionaire oligarchs” who prioritize personal profit over the interests of ordinary people. Ruffalo had previously urged California Attorney General Rob Bonta and other officials to block the antitrust merger, but Paramount reached an agreement with twelve attorneys general to move the deal forward.
Ruffalo also criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom for his role in the process, suggesting the outcome favors billionaire interests. The actor has maintained a public stance against the merger for months, framing the opposition as a broader movement against corporate consolidation in the entertainment industry.
