NATO chief Rutte says US attacks on Iran were necessary

At the NATO summit in Ankara, Secretary General Mark Rutte called the United States' recent air strikes on Iran "absolutely necessary". He argued that Iran was violating a fragile cease‑fire in the Strait of Hormuz and that a strong U.S. response was "totally crucial". The U.S. announced a new wave of attacks on Iranian air‑defence, missile and drone sites after Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said it had hit American targets in Bahrain and Kuwait in retaliation for earlier American strikes.

Rutte also used the meeting to stress NATO’s unity, noting increased defence spending among allies and describing the summit as a "big success" for the alliance. He said the United States remains fully committed to NATO and that the alliance’s collective defence remains vital for European security.
