Mark Twain Hotel settlement addresses hazardous conditions in St. Louis

Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway has announced a settlement with Anchor Point Hotel LLC to resolve claims regarding hazardous and unlawful conditions at the Mark Twain Hotel in downtown St. Louis. The legal action addressed chronic safety failures, dangerous living conditions, and persistent criminal activity, including drug use, which the state classified as a public nuisance.

The agreement, reached between the State of Missouri, the City of St. Louis, and the property owner, does not include an admission of liability. It aims to establish accountability and create a pathway for the lawful redevelopment of the property to improve public safety in the downtown area.

To support those affected, the nonprofit organization Peter & Paul Community Services will administer restitution. This funding is intended to assist displaced residents with housing, relocation, and other essential resources. St. Louis Mayor Cara Spencer noted that the coordinated effort between state and local partners is designed to address longstanding challenges for the neighborhood while supporting affected residents.
