Mark Zuckerberg urges US not to block Chinese AI models

Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg told the Financial Times that banning Chinese artificial‑intelligence models would not be an effective solution. He warned that U.S. efforts to restrict Chinese AI labs under accusations of intellectual‑property theft risk a form of regulatory capture that could hamper domestic competition.

Zuckerberg called for systematic monitoring rather than outright bans and promoted “open” AI models that can be run on users’ own hardware. He highlighted Moonshot AI’s new Kimi K3 model from Beijing, which he said rivals offerings from OpenAI and Anthropic, and cautioned that AI could become an oligopoly dominated by a few large firms.
