Mark Zuckerberg's Launchpad yacht faces €5.7 million fuel criticism

Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg is linked to the 118‑meter superyacht Launchpad, built by Feadship in 2024 and valued at over €260 million. In its first two years the yacht reportedly sailed nearly 100,000 km across the Mediterranean, Atlantic, Caribbean, northern Europe and the Pacific, consuming about 5.3 million litres of diesel at an estimated cost of €5.7 million. The fuel use translates to roughly 14,300 tonnes of CO₂, an amount comparable to the annual emissions of several thousand cars.

The yacht attracted public attention when it entered Seattle’s Ballard Locks on 26 May 2026, the same day Meta announced 1,395 layoffs in Washington state – about 20 % of its regional workforce. The coincidence sparked criticism of the stark contrast between the billionaire’s extravagance and the company’s workforce reductions. Earlier, the vessel was photographed alongside Zuckerberg’s family in Mallorca, Spain, during a father‑s‑day celebration.

The story underscores the environmental footprint of luxury vessels and juxtaposes it with corporate downsizing at Meta.
