A 48-year-old man from Markelo is scheduled to appear before a judge in Mount Vernon, Ohio, on September 4 following a fatal traffic accident. The incident occurred on August 18 in Berlin Township when the driver allegedly failed to yield at a stop sign, causing a truck to collide with his van.
The collision resulted in the deaths of three individuals. The driver, who sustained serious injuries including a collapsed lung and broken ribs, has been discharged from the hospital but remains in poor physical condition.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol has filed seven charges against the man, including three counts of vehicular homicide and three counts of vehicular manslaughter. He also faces prosecution for ignoring a stop sign. The vehicular homicide charges are classified as misdemeanors, and the maximum penalty for the most serious charges is six months in prison per fatality.
