Market analysts highlight gold resurgence and sector rotation

Financial analysts are highlighting shifting trends in global markets, focusing on asset rotation and sector-specific opportunities. Mar Barrero of Arquia Banca notes the resurgence of gold as a safe-haven asset, which has seen increases of over 10% in the last month due to debt market risks. She also warns of the dangers regarding US debt, specifically the rising cost of servicing that debt due to historically high interest rates, while noting the interdependence between the US and Japan.

In Europe, there is a noted reactivation of the industrial sector, particularly in Germany, as reflected in PMI data. Regarding portfolio management, Cobas Asset Management is undergoing a rotation process. After seeing strong performance in energy and commodities, the firm is reducing exposure to those sectors in favor of cyclical and consumer companies that were penalized by the market following the pandemic.

Specific investment interests include the British retailer JD Sports, due to its scale and integration with major brands, and the American firm G-III Apparel, noted for its management quality despite sector challenges. Additionally, the UK technology retailer Currys is being monitored for its ability to gain market share despite difficult macroeconomic conditions.
