Market fires reported in Ibadan and Kano
Multiple market fires have caused significant property damage in Nigeria. In Ibadan, Oyo State, a fire at Gbaji Market along the Ibadan-Ife Expressway destroyed eight large shops. The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed that no casualties were recorded, though illegal structures and goods obstructing access roads hindered firefighting efforts.
In Kano State, a blaze at the Kofar Ruwa Timber Market destroyed 75 permanent buildings and 35 temporary structures. The Kano State Fire Service reported that the incident began in the early morning. Officials have urged traders to adopt increased safety measures to mitigate fire risks, particularly during the harmattan season.
