Market redevelopment projects underway in Monteverde and via Buontalenti

Renovation projects for historic markets in Monteverde and via Buontalenti are progressing, involving significant investments to modernize local commerce infrastructure.

In Monteverde, a 1.5 million euro contract has been awarded for the redevelopment of the San Giovanni di Dio market. Work is scheduled to begin in early November with the establishment of a temporary market in Piazza Madonna delle Salette. Merchants are expected to relocate to these temporary structures following the winter period to ensure service continuity for residents.

In via Buontalenti, the redevelopment project has seen costs rise to approximately 3.45 million euros after the discovery of 1930s-era underground structures necessitated additional works. The Buontalenti Consortium anticipates a potential reopening of the market area between December 5 and 6, which would allow vendors to return to their original location ahead of the Christmas shopping season. Local officials are currently managing the transition from temporary sites in Piazza Cavour and Scali Saffi.
