Market revitalizations progress in Balikpapan and Kediri

Market revitalization projects in Balikpapan and Kediri are nearing completion, providing new facilities for traders displaced by previous fires.

In Balikpapan, South, the construction of a temporary shelter (TPS) featuring 97 kiosks is finished. The facility is scheduled to be inaugurated by Mayor Rahmad Mas’ud on November 9, 2026. Following the inauguration and symbolic key handover, traders will undergo administrative processes before occupying the new, cleaner spaces. Many traders had been operating from sidewalks or outside the market area while awaiting the facility.

In Kediri Regency, the revitalization of Ngadiluwih Market, which burned in 2022, is also almost complete. The new facility includes 705 trading spaces consisting of kiosks, stalls, and a food court. Traders are currently undergoing a lot drawing process based on market zoning. While 714 traders are recorded by the local trade office, 76 individuals remain on a waiting list. Traders expressed optimism that the more organized and representative building will help restore sales volumes and economic activity.
