Market trends show gold price shifts in Bosnia and onion price gaps in Serbia

In Banja Luka, gold prices currently range from approximately 250 KM to 400 KM per gram, depending on the purity, model, and craftsmanship of the item. Jewelers report that prices have fluctuated recently, dropping from winter highs of 370 KM. Wedding bands are in high demand, with prices for a pair starting at 1,000 KM and reaching several thousand depending on weight, while some specialized rings can cost up to 10,000 KM. Customers can also trade in old gold, which is currently being bought back at rates between 120 and 220 KM per gram.

In Serbia, a significant price discrepancy has been observed between supermarkets and open-air markets regarding onion prices. In cities like Belgrade, Kragujevac, and Valjevo, onions are often twice as expensive at markets compared to retail stores. Agro-economic expert Milan Prostran attributes this to market competition, noting that large retail chains benefit from direct relationships with producers. In contrast, open-air markets often involve middlemen between the producer and the consumer, which drives up the final cost for shoppers.
