South Asian markets face volatility amid currency and commodity shifts
Financial markets across South Asia experienced notable fluctuations as currency values and commodity prices shifted. In Sri Lanka, the Colombo Stock Exchange ended lower, with the All Share Price Index (ASPI) declining 0.28 percent. Simultaneously, the Sri Lankan Rupee saw depreciation against the US Dollar across commercial banks.
In India, the rupee experienced volatility, depreciating 12 paise to 94.50 against the US Dollar in early trade due to weak domestic markets and rising crude oil prices. This movement occurred alongside a decline in domestic gold and silver prices, driven by international bullion trends and currency fluctuations. Gold prices in major cities like Delhi and Mumbai faced pressure following corrections in global markets.
In Pakistan, gold and silver prices also followed a downward trend, influenced by international bullion movements and local trading conditions. Gold per tola was reported at Rs 431,536, while silver prices recorded a decline.
