Market updates: Food prices in Arequipa and recycling program in Mexico City
In Arequipa, Peru, essential food prices at the Mercado Metropolitano showed moderate variations. Meat and poultry prices remained relatively stable, with whole chicken priced from S/ 8.50 per kilo and beef ranging between S/ 19.80 and S/ 20.00 per kilo. Vegetable prices also remain accessible, with tomatoes costing between S/ 3.50 and S/ 4.00 per kilo and onions between S/ 1.50 and S/ 2.00 per kilo.
In Mexico City, the Secretariat of the Environment (Sedema) is organizing a barter market at the Bosque de San Juan de Aragón on November 8. Participants can exchange clean, sorted recyclable materials—such as cardboard, paper, PET, aluminum, and glass—for 'Green Points.' These points can be redeemed for basic pantry goods, recycled items, plants, or fresh vegetables.
