Marketa Vondrousova appeals four-year anti-doping ban to CAS

Tennis player Marketa Vondrousova has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against a four-year suspension. The ban, imposed by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), follows her refusal to undergo a surprise out-of-competition anti-doping test at her home in December 2025.

Vondrousova, the 2023 Wimbledon singles champion, maintains her innocence. She stated that her refusal was driven by safety concerns, claiming the official failed to identify themselves correctly and did not follow proper protocol. She described being at a breaking point due to months of physical and mental stress at the time of the incident.

The initial tribunal ruled that she provided no convincing justification for the refusal. Legal analysts suggest her defense may attempt to reclassify the incident as a negligent failure rather than a voluntary refusal to seek a reduced sentence, or argue that her actions were a manifestation of a clinical condition rather than a deliberate attempt to evade rules.
